from 1910 into the 30s the Huppmobile, cars from Hupp motors , were the product and pride of the most innovative carmakers in Detroit. The company created the first all steel body cars, while the likes of Ford were sticking to wood and cast iron. They made sturdy, tough, reliable 4 cylinder machines that even Mr. Ford was impressed with, admitting they were a better deal for the money than his. The car heaters they designed for the Skylark are now standard, as is the pressed welded steel body. In the end the desire to move up market, from everyman cars to luxury automobiles ruined them, they laid out a huge investment in upscale car making, just as the depression hit. A hostile takeover ended the finest middle class car maker of the first third of the century, all that remains of them in our modern world is the name of their last 4door coupe, the Skylark.
It is kind of a testament that there are still aquite a few Hupps in running order around the country. Even inspired jazz tunes!
