Here are examples of military field radio kit of the First World War. Pretty neat stuff.  Interesting fact, the Russians were notoriously bad at radio in that war, broadcasting orders and other sensitive info in clear Russian using no codes or other obfuscations, which helped the Germans win numerous victories.  The French were first at putting sets into aeroplanes for artillery spotting, But trusted pigeons with all important communications as they were more reliable. The US army put the emphasis on shipping over equipment, which we were not geared up to produce in 1918 anyhow, so used French equipment, Signalmen often hand writing and gluing American language lables on the gear.
