in 1814 our invasion of Canada under General Jacob Brown was given the finger by the Canadians at the battle of Lundy's Lane.  Remember General  Jacob Jennings Brown?  No?  that's too bad, since after helping one Alexander Hamilton win a thing called the Revolutionary war, he would eventually be the guy to create the Army's first post graduate schools, and championed higher education for enlisted men.  He won the Congressional Gold Medal (the for-runner of the congressional medal of honor) and would lead the army as it's highest general under later presidents like Monroe.  Oh, yeah, and he got his ass kicked in Canada, which is why we probably don't celebrate him like we do some other generals.  Losing only worked for Lee, Longstreet, and Co.
