I just finished General Estigibarria's memoir of the Chaco war; when Bolivia tried to take Paraguay's chaco province. A nation of 3.4 million thought it would steamroll a nation of 1 million with nearly no army at all...instead Paraguay's general Estigibarria fought one of the most brilliant strategic campaigns of the 20 th century, with 30,000 men, 400 working trucks, 2 tanks, 5 aircraft, almost no guns, rifles, or ammunition, in one of the most hellish of south American landscapes...he completely trounced bolivia's forces...equipped by American mining firms with surplus wwi equipment and officered with German generals no less.
