I really love Mignot's diorama display boxes.  They are beautiful.  This one was intended for the American market.  The set was manufactured in recent decades, but entirely from old molds and plates, thus perfectly reproduces what it would have been circa 1905.  The colors and art and world building combine in stunning effect.  you can see the French heritage of Georges Méliès and a use of stage craft in building illusions of depth and space.  The Whale being hunted is the star attraction, and the beautiful victorian styled bowhead is a work of art in it's own right.

It looks like Deb might win the auction for my Xmas prezzie; The Tin Army of the Potomac, it's an amazing kids book from 1888, I've been wanting for decades now.
